Perfect World Is Banning Neverwinter Foundry Exploits: Creators And Players

Consider this a classic example of why we can’t have nice things. Neverwinter is just another of Cryptic’s games to feature a foundry, where players can create missions for other players to enjoy for their wonderful stories, deep and thoughtful mission design, and…ah who am I kidding? Neverwinter is an MMO and therefore the community will exploit everything until it is taken away from them. Players quickly found a way to exploit the foundry system, creating missions that are nothing more than a bunch of high value mobs in a pit, unable to fight back while the player farms them for gold, items, and experience.

Unfortunately for players, Perfect World Entertainment is apparently cracking down on large amounts of experience and items gained through the foundry. The patch released earlier today modified gains through the foundry, and Neverwinter has taken action not just against accounts that created the foundry missions, but against players who repeatedly used those foundry missions to level quickly. Some foundry creators are reporting their accounts banned, while others are claiming that their access to creating foundry missions has been revoked. Players who repeatedly used quick-leveling foundry missions are similarly reporting bans.

So far there hasn’t been any official announcement of the bans, apart from player reports.

  1. I bought the founders pack the other day after my Cleric reached lvl 20 as I liked the game. I played 1 foundry mission (The Pit, I think) I logged in the game for 5 mins this monring and all was fine, but tried just now and got ‘Account banned’, there was no email from PWorld (as their site says should happen to explain a ban) and am thoroughly pee’d off after spending 19Euros. I did the mission once before removing the remaining created foundry q’s from my log as I could get the daily hand in for them and went on to the NW storyline. I got minimal xp from the bannable mission and some rubbish green item for a rogue. Not happy

    1. Hi Billy,

You should try appealing to Perfect World customer support, according to my sources only players who “repeatedly” played those maps (and could conceivably know that they were exploiting the system) are supposed to be getting hit by the banhammer.

  2. I got hit by the ban hammer myself, and got no email explaining why.

First I thought it might have been some kinda automated ban, since I often login via VPN and appear to login from different countries all over the world.

But after searching around the net, I am sure its because I have playd a foundry mission called ‘Training Arena’.

But I just don’t understand how playing that map, can get me banned as a player.
If the reason is simply, no story, and you play the quest, then you get banned.

Why have they not just made a system that says if no dialog over 5 lines of text. Send the foundry quest for review before accepting?
Or only play every foundry mission once every 1 hour or what ever.

I really don’t see why I should have been hammered by a ban, yes I played it multiple times, maybe 5-8 times in a row, but the monsters were not hampered in anyway. And the loot was not great. I needed a few xp to level, maybe about 800xp or so.
And used the foundry mission as a way of doing it, from my point of view I simply played the game and got banned.

And the story of the map made sense.

I have appealed the ban, and now have to wait 3-4 days for an answer.
