Gateworld, a Stargate fansite, recently published an interview with Shane Hensley from Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment, about Stargate Resistance, CME’s upcoming shooter based on the Stargate universe. In it, Shane confirms essentially what we have all known now for about a month: That CME has moved most of their resources to Stargate Resistance, and Stargate Worlds has been shelved for the time being. He also confirmed something we’ve all known, but haven’t managed to get official word on:
We did not have the financial or human resources to successfully complete Stargate Worlds, so it was indeterminable when it would be completed.
-Shane Hensley, Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment, on Stargate Worlds
So Stargate Worlds hasn’t been delayed, because Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment never had the resources to complete it. Although Stargate Resistance has been confirmed to be a release to gain funds for CME, the following quote is a little harder on the nerves:
Worlds was a far larger project than we were able to successfully continue after the economic collapse created financial problems for us last summer, and impossible given a couple of key personnel who left.
This spells very badly for Stargate Worlds, and may actually increase the odds that outcome #3 occurs, Stargate Worlds is shelved indefinitely. Even in non-MMOs, I have never seen an announcement that “key personnel have left” that hasn’t ended in disaster for the company. The fact that these people leaving is what made the project impossible puts Stargate Worlds in a much more delicate position than it was in previously. A stage where any blowing wind can knock it off balance, and into the bottomless pit of unfinished MMOs.
I’m adding the first Shane Hensley quote to the quotes page, and as usual: More news on Stargate Worlds as it appears.

I’ve read that the funding dried up for Stargate Worlds due to the economy. Itwas said that priority shifted to Stargate Resistance’s completion so that the game could get out and make money in order to get Stargate Worlds back on track.
100% correct, Chris.
I had already mentioned in a previous article that Stargate Worlds was being shelved in favor of Stargate Resistance, the sales from which would go to funding SGW, but I added this article because of the comment by Cheyenne Mountain that they never had the funds to finish Stargate Worlds, so the option was Resistance or bust, essentially.
Stargate Resistance is going to be CME’s Final Fantasy, so to speak. The future of the company, and definitely the future of Stargate Worlds, depends on Resistance’s sales.
Cheers.
