Early Access Fraudsters: Colonies Online Is A Big Fat Scam

Abandoned by the developers.

Colonies Online is an Early Access title launched on May 1, 2014 and it’s about time for the game’s six year checkup. As is usually the case with Early Access checkups, the first thing I do is look at the latest update, the review score, what people are saying about the game, and whether or not the developer is still present.

In the case of Colonies Online the game has a 25% “mostly negative” rating on Steam. Look into the reviews and you will find that a total of four reviews were written for the game this year, three of which are negative. The most recent reviews all say the same thing; avoid Colonies Online as the game is virtually nonfunctional and the developer abandoned it years ago.

And it seems as though those people are correct. The last content update that I can find on the news page dates to February 11, 2016 with a modestly small patch notes. In April 2019 a news post makes note of servers being down and promises to update when they are available to which there has been no update in over a year.

Looking at player numbers, it’s no surprise that Colonies Online died on the vine as it has not surpassed ten peak players since February 2016. The website for Colonies Online does not work. Nobody from the company has posted since May 2018.

Despite being completely abandoned, developer Iron Bit has seen fit to continue selling Colonies Online in packages up to $64.99. This and despite numerous people claiming that they have reported the game over the years Valve has still not taken action to remove the title from their storefront.

Don’t buy Colonies Online, you’ll just be wasting your money.
