Playable Worlds Raises $10 Million Series A Funding

For new cloud-native MMO.

Playable Worlds this week has announced that it has secured $10 million in funding led by investor Galaxy Interactive via its Galaxy EOS VC Fund. Additional funding provided by BITKRAFT Esports Ventures. Playable Worlds is currently working on a sandbox MMO built for the cloud with the goal of introducing new kinds of gameplay and experiences in a more realistic and immersive world more powerful than what could be previously imagined.

The team is being led by none other than CEO Raph Koster (Ultima Online, Star Wars Galaxies).

“Now that we have our foundational technology, we’re moving into production on our
innovative lead title and original IP,” said Koster. “The support from Galaxy Interactive and
BITKRAFT enables us to hire staff and push the boundaries of what an online world can be,
reinforced by best practices for persistence, engagement, and retention to build a game that
lasts.”

Playable Worlds expects that its cloud technology will deliver richer simulations, more regular content releases, and stronger communities. Goals of the company are boosting engagement and retention, and delivering compelling player experiences.
