Riot Executive Ousted After Racist Facebook Posts

“Resignation” sounds a like like fired with dignity.

Global head of consumer products is a fancy sounding position and for Riot Games executive Ron Johnson it is one that he’ll be putting on his past employment as of this week. The now ousted Riot Games exec found himself on leave Wednesday after a racist Facebook post surfaced downplaying the murder of George Floyd by a police officer. While Johnson claims to not condone his killing, the post appears to suggest that the outcome was at least partially Floyd’s fault because he at one point was involved in criminal activity.

It then dives into fear mongering saying Floyd was “getting ready to drive a car and possibly kill your kid.”

In an internal memo obtained by ESPN, Riot CEO Nicolo Laurent announced Johnson’s resignation.

“It resulted in a post that was harmful to many of us and our broader community. It was insensitive and in this moment, it undermines the commitment we’ve made to stand against all acts of injustice, racism, prejudice, and hate. It also hinders our ability to create an inclusive environment for our entire community: Rioters, players, and partners alike.”

This week Riot Games pledged $1 million to the fight against systemic racism.
