Players come together to gank Covid-19 in nullsec.
CCP Games announced this week that PLEX For Good, a charitable Eve Online program, has successfully raised more than $130,000 USD for the World Health Organization Covid-19 Solidarity Response Fund as well as Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security. The donations come on the heels of a $107,000 donation to the Australian bushfire relief efforts back in February.
PLEX is Eve Online’s Pilot License Extension currency which is bought for real money and traded freely within the game. As it is a commodity, it allows players who otherwise aren’t able to donate real money of their own to make a charitable contribution.
CEO Hilmar Veigar Pétursson stated;
“An unprecedented global crisis has been met by an unprecedented level of support and for that, I am once again hugely proud, grateful and humbled by the efforts of our players. We stand together as a community in our support of the work that is being done by health workers, scientists, and institutes around the world to fight this pandemic and bolster its relief.”
PLEX for Good has raised over $700,000 for charitable causes over the past fifteen years, which CCP Games states all Eve Online players should be immensely proud of.
