Microsoft announces price hikes on their website.
Xbox Live Gold remains one of those things that exists because Microsoft and Sony long ago realized they could charge customers for something PC players get for free. And for Xbox users that cost is about to get a fair amount more expensive.
Microsoft announced this week that Xbox Live prices will rise for the first time in some markets in over 10 years. One month subscriptions will increase by $1 to $10.99, three month subscriptions are going up by $5 to $29.99, and six month subscriptions are going up by $10 to $59.99.
Effectively this doubles the price of Xbox Live Gold as Microsoft had previous sold twelve month passes for $60, which will now be the cost for just six months. It also means Xbox Live will now cost double Sony’s PS+ which still charges $60 for a full year. Players in affected regions will receive an email letting them know about the upcoming changes. The decision feels geared toward pushing customers to upgrade to Game Pass Ultimate.
