When downloading the new PS5 update.
Today marks the launch of Clint Barton Hawkeye on Marvel’s Avengers, and more importantly the launch of the PS5/Series X upgrades. You may be tempted to delete your PS4 copy of Avengers before downloading the PS5 version to save space. You’re going to not want to do this, just to save some headache down the road.
Since Square Enix doesn’t seem to operate by logical measures, you can’t just download the new version, log in, and hope to pick up where you left off. If you do, you’re going to be shocked when you find yourself with a fresh slate of characters and none of your save data.
What you need to do is boot up the current gen version and you’ll find a new option on the main page to migrate save data. Save migration doesn’t seem to be functioning right now (as of 1 p.m. ET on March 18) because of course it isn’t. Avengers also doesn’t differentiate its versions so you’ll need to click on the triple dots and select the PS4 version. They won’t show up as separate icons. Since I don’t own it I can’t vouch for how the Series S/X does its library. The save migration should work the same.
If this process is easier on Xbox, please let me know.
