Diaries From Eorzea: Climbing FFXIV’s MSQ

Making progress in the fastest way possible.

I have been playing a lot of Final Fantasy XIV over the past couple of weeks. A lot of it. It’s been quite some time since I last gave a serious push in Final Fantasy to catch up on the main series quest line, having been left somewhere in the opening acts of Heavensward. But I reactivated my account and dived in with a sole focus: Do nothing but the main series quest line.

And I’m happy to say that push has been a rousing success. As of last night I managed to finally finish the campaign for Stormblood and will probably be logging in after I write this to work on the post-expansion content (starting at patch 1.1 missions). The only diversions I’ve been taking have been to boost my gear when needed and to complete each area’s aether current when possible. The aether current allows you to fly in expansion zones.

Now I just need to get to Shadowbringers and then patch 5.5.

One aspect of FFXIV I have appreciated while making my way downtown is how civil and friendly the community is. Dungeons are generally pretty speedy to get into and the game immediately broadcasts if someone is running it for the first time. People call out obscure details for boss fights, and I even see a lot of hellos and how are you in public queue dungeons. Crazy.

The downtime during queues has given me time to start selling my loot on the open market as well as working on quests that unlock quests released over the years. Once I get done with the patch quests, I plan on working on leveling up the two hundred million other jobs and reputation systems.
