Tommy Tallarico tweets, deletes, legal threat toward Ars Technica.
The Intellivision Amico is an upcoming home console that’s been in the works for some time, and if you know anything about the console you know that Tommy Tallarico is basically the face of Intellivision. Having bought the brand in 2018, Tallarico has been doing the publicity rounds for over a year now on any YouTube channel and podcast that will have him, boasting about the features of the console.
Ars Technica this week posted a story showcasing a recent leak from the Amico dev portal, and some of the information shown off highlights the low power of the Amico hardware. The dev spec sheet advises developers to build their games with the expectation of a system whose performance mirrors that of budget Android consoles. The system Intellivision uses as its benchmark example is the ZTE ZMax Pro Z981, a $100 budget phone from 2016.
CEO Tommy Tallarico responded to the article in a now-deleted message threatening legal action and claiming that Ars Technica was publishing “copywritten confidential information.” He did not elaborate on what material in the article was false. The claims of confidential information also fall short as the Intellivision developer page was made publicly available with no password required long enough for pages to be archived.
If you check out the Intellivision Twitter account, you’ll find it blasting a tidal wave of positive coverage presumably to offset the growing negative reaction to Tommy threatening legal action against the press for posting unflattering information.
Threatening the press rarely ever goes well, and Tommy’s claim that the website was breached doesn’t hold up to the reality that the pages were public long enough to be indexed by the Wayback Machine. For those unaware, the Wayback Machine is functionally incapable of finding and indexing pages that are not accessible to the public.
MMO Fallout plans on covering the Amico as it gets closer to launch. Eager beavers can pre-order the system at a number of outlets.
