So many people are playing Final Fantasy XIV that Square stopped selling it.
Today’s news is good for Final Fantasy XIV players. Evidently the game has become so popular that its popularity broke the laws of logic and caused Square Enix to run out of digital copies of the game. Yep, the digital version has been going out of stock recently, at least on Square Enix’s website. The Steam store seems to be completely fine.
The outage only seems to have affected the North American version of the Complete Edition, with the starter pack and expansions separately being fully available for purchase. Final Fantasy XIV has seen a massive surge of new players picking the game up in recent months, with a seemingly large subset of that group coming from disaffected World of Warcraft players. Recently YouTuber Asmongold switched over to Final Fantasy XIV bringing his massive following of viewers with him.
There’s also a login campaign for lapsed accounts going on currently. The whole thing is resulting in periods of time where character creation is disabled on most servers. The character creation limit it should be noted is time based and if a server has shut off creation at 8p.m. for example it will probably be reenabled overnight after the peak population has dropped.
Hang in there. Just wait to see how popular the game is as it gets closer to the next expansion release.
