The Palia team has had layoffs this week, with about 35% of the studio now out of work. News about the layoffs starting floating around social media as various team members began revealing their involuntary departures, with the studio confirming in a statement to MassivelyOP that indeed a number of people have been let go.
Following Palia’s release on Steam, we evaluated the support needed to deliver the highest-quality gameplay service for long-term stability. We made the difficult decision to reduce our workforce, which impacted around 35 percent of our talented and hardworking team members.
Palia is sitting at an 8,700 user peak over the last 24 hours on Steam and has been available on Epic Games Store as well as Nintendo Switch.
This game is done for.
Nothing says; ‘this studio is in deep shit’ louder than layoffs.
And they didn’t just fire some no-consequence support staff, they fired key members of the team responsible for important aspects of the game. So yeah, that’s a gg if ever seen one.
But i expected this at some point, the game can hardly be called interesting after all.
It could have been; ‘My Time At Portia’ with multiplayer but they don’t even have a decent pve to pull that off.
