Hotcakes: Criminal Makes Vague Claim Outside Court

Yuji Naka should go away now.

Yuji Naka is a financial criminal, the co-creator of Sonic recently appeared back on social media following a conviction for insider trading in July 2023. It’s important to note that Yuji Naka was successfully convicted because he himself pled guilty, admitting that he is in fact a financial criminal.

The charges stem from insider trading related to Naka buying up shares in Square Enix companies using private information on upcoming games. He admitted to this. Originally sentenced to 30 months in prison along with a seven figure fine. His prison sentence was reduced to a suspended sentence.

Yuji Naka recently showed back up on Twitter where he immediately put his foot in his mouth by making a vague claim about Dragon Quest director Yu Miyake which seems to claim that Miyake lied in court;

“Finally. I was hoping he would be gone soon because he is the kind of person who would submit a note with a lie (with evidence) to a court of law. I have never met him, but the new [Square Enix] president might be a good person.”

Bold words for a convicted criminal, and very convenient given the venue. You’ll notice Yuji Naka is saying this now nearly a year after the fact and on Twitter of all places. A vague statement seemingly tailor made to avoid violating the terms of his suspended sentence, or perhaps Japan’s more harsh defamation laws.

You’ll notice the one place Yuji Naka didn’t accuse Yu Miyake of lying in his testimony, and that was in court. The kind of place Yuji Naka would have been under oath and therefore would face legal punishment for lying. The place that might have helped him avoid this million dollar fine and suspended prison sentence if he was actually innocent. But he’s guilty, he admitted it.

A place that would be useful for him.

The prosecutors in the trial apparently said that Yuji Naka showed no remorse for his crimes, and in the waning months he’s evidently also developed no sense of self awareness. I don’t know who Naka thinks his wishy-washy nonsense statement is going to convince, given the sentiment around the internet is seeing it for what it likely is;

A criminal still trying to buck responsibility. A man whose career is in the toilet and reputation flushed even lower desperately trying to get the last word on an audience that doesn’t want to hear any of it.

Otherwise I have no opinion on the matter.
