Raph Koster Unveils Stars Reach

An upcoming MMO.

Those of you who frequent Twitter may have been following Playable Worlds teasing their upcoming MMO using a series of vague questions and thought to yourself “wow this is boring.” At least I did. The good news is that the time of getting people hyped up for their game with all the energy and enthusiasm of a Droopy Dog cheerleading routine is over, and we finally get to see more about the game.

Industry veteran Raph Koster finally unveiled Stars Reach, an upcoming sandbox MMO that sounds ludicrously ambitious. Giant server that is one single shard? Check. Procedurally generated planets you can build on and modify the terrain of? Double check. Evolving planets with trees that grow, animals that migrate, rivers that flow naturally and can be altered to change the biomes? Yeah that’s there too.

I didn’t ask Raph Koster anything for this article but he provided this quote in the press release.

“I have been working towards this game for thirty years. Now that technology has caught up to our dreams, we can build the living alternate world we envisioned when we were creating the MMORPG category,” said Raph Koster, CEO of Playable Worlds.

You can register now at the official website. Stars Reach is set for playable beta sometime before the heat death of the universe, we hope. You can also read Raph Koster’s interviews at Massively and MMORPG.com.

  1. Congratulations on keeping your headline to just five words. A number of sites felt they had to sell the moment and the history all in the headline.
