2024 Awards: Future Redemption Arc Hopeful Award – Bill Roper

Putting Hellgate back on track.

If you created a laundry list of repeated names here at MMO Fallout, you probably wouldn’t get far before Bill Roper appeared on that list. Actually you might get really far, since Roper hasn’t been in the news much. Outside of 2024 I have only written about him once in the last twelve years.

But old grudges die hard and odds are a good portion of my readers still harbor anger against Roper as the main subject of blame for some greediness that went on with Star Trek Online and Champions Online in their launches.

I’m giving this award to Bill Roper for the sole fact that he announced that his new development studio Lunacy Games had acquired the rights to Hellgate London. That’s lunacy. And while I have no clue what Lunacy Games is capable of, I’m willing to give a chance now that the Hellgate property is back with its biological father.

Hellgate still holds a special place in the hearts of many gamers, and we’ll have to see if Hellgate: Redemption is a return to a time when someone was around to care.
