Metin 2 clone hits to mostly negative reviews.
Laniatus is kind of a funny company. If you check out their splash page they describe themselves as “pushing the boundaries of technology” and that they “make awesome games.” And then you look at the singular game they actually launched, that being in 2025 the year of Arnold, called PlayM2M and realize they’re pushing the boundary at the other end. The lower end of the boundary.
This month Laniatus opened their first game as Laniatus. It’s a Metin 2 clone called PlayM2M and evidently it is awful to just about anyone who doesn’t live in Turkey. It looks and plays like a budget Korean MMO that would have released in 2004 and been developed by Webzen. The kind that Gameforge would take over publishing for in European territories.
I use those examples for no particular reason. Enemies have next to no AI and are just strewn across the map in very large numbers.

Laniatus’ take on Metin 2 hasn’t quite gone down well with the Steam community, where the launch saw a peak concurrent player count of 288. Additionally, those reviewing it haven’t had great things to say as the game sits at a 33% positive score with a “mostly negative” rating.
As Harambe’s Ghost put it, “This game is slop”. A Lion in a gucci suit noted the similarities between this game and Metin 2;
“This is Metin2 retextured, exact same m0ans on basic attacks.
Shaman, Ninja, Sura, Warrior all copied, even the animation, even the m0ans even the skills lol?
This feels like a private unfinished Metin2 , but peoples speak 90% of time Turkish so it explains why is it Metin2 , as back in my day there was full of Turks and Romanians playing it.”
And user Inferna also noticed that this appears to be “a cheap copy of metin 2 but worse.”
Looks and plays like a cheap copy of metin 2,but worse.
Even the warriors basic hit combo is directly taken from metin 2,how lazy can you be.
The font,the interface,the hideous character textures…come on,this might have gotten a pass 20 years ago,but now?If you want the metin 2 experience,but more modern,try inferna instead.
It also sucks,but its still better than this.
Check out the game that MMORPG.com didn’t call “a top notch MMORPG with an outstanding faction system” because the devs put fake testimonials from the press on their Kickstarter. All built on the Laniatus Engine that may or may not be an extension of the defunct Hero Engine, the biggest failure in video game engines over the last decade.
Or if you want a good action game, you can check out our pals at Path of Exile 2. It’s really fun. Dawn of the Hunt coming April 4!
