Tim Sweeney already declaring it a success.
Fortnite players may be surprised to see the sudden launch of Chapter 7, especially since Epic Games is normally pretty up front with season changes. Also Chapter 6 is only halfway through season 2, which was not expected to end for another month and a half.
But yesterday, March 28, Epic suddenly dropped Chapter 7, tentatively titled “Go Outside.” The chapter marks big changes for Fortnite including the removal of every single game mode and every weapon. Notably not removed is the item shop and ability to purchase in-game currency V-Bucks.

Patch notes were posted today on the website, with a comment from Epic CEO Tim Sweeney:
“We launched Chapter 7 with no prerelease fanfare because we wanted to see the authentic reactions from our player base. I believe that new game modes from going outside and touching grass, to playing literally any of the games in your backlog you’ve been ignoring to throw thousands of hours into Fortnite will really spice up the aging battle royale title.
Each new season in Chapter 7 will encourage gamers with new modes like finishing that book you read the first chapter of in college, learning to play that instrument you found at the thrift store for $5, and finally cooking one of those easy beginner recipes rotting on your YouTube playlist.”
The complete lack of available game modes is not expected to discourage players from buying the new Mortal Kombat bundle for the low price of 3,600 V-Bucks. You can get your hands on Scorpion, Raiden, and Sub-Zero and imagine what they will look like when Fortnite brings back its game modes in Chapter 8, tentatively scheduled for a 2027 release.
