I don’t know.
I haven’t finished a single cup in Formula Legends on the Xbox Series X and it’s probably likely I never will. I got a copy of the game from the publisher for review and that’s why you’re seeing me review it here on MMO Fallout as opposed to the usual YouTube channel. That and because I don’t feel like making a video for this.
Formula Legends looks like an arcade racer, but the game itself is somewhere between arcade and simulator and none of it feels particularly great. The premise of the game is fantastic; a celebration of decades of Formula racing without the pesky need for things like copyright. The game is chock full of knockoffs of the real thing to keep the price down.

It’s not very fun. You might be confused to learn that Formula Legends doesn’t have multiplayer. And by doesn’t have multiplayer I mean it doesn’t even have local split-screen. The story mode will take you through the decades of cars and you’ll unlock tracks and cars and stuff along the way. But once that’s done, all you’ve got is the custom racing that is still single player only.
But like I said earlier, Formula Legends is intensely frustrating. It doesn’t have the quality of control of a sim racing game but it sure does require you to act like it’s a sim racing game. You need to be really good at hitting brake points and turning exactly when the game wants you to, and the steering is not your friend.

Even with the accessibility options cranked all the way on and the game turned down to easy I still found myself planting into walls way too easily. The game loves spinning your car out and locking your brakes up without the accessibility options cranked.
Missing a turn or going into the wall is extremely punishing and will often throw you into last place from first, and this is where it doesn’t help that your car feels like you’re driving a five pound RC car. I bumped the wall slightly and my car did a 90 degree turn toward the wall and came to an abrupt halt. The cars don’t respond to the scenery or other cars like you would expect a car to, they respond like you would expect an RC car to.

Formula Legends doesn’t have much to offer that you couldn’t get in a much nicer package for a few dollarydoos more. The graphics are nothing to write home about, nor is the soundtrack. The controls are rough and make the game borderline unplayable for all but seemingly the most masochistic. There’s no multiplayer so if you’re not particularly keen on the AI you’ve got no options at all.
Just play an official Formula One game.
