Please and thank you.
Say what you will about MindsEye, a game so bad that people weren’t taking up GameStop’s coupon to nab it for $15 back in January, but uh…I don’t know. Incidentally the most long-lasting entertainment this title seems to have provided is the behavior of its top brass. And by top brass I of course mean Mark Gerhard.
And make no mistake, I 100% support Mark Gerhard in this. People all over the net have been calling Gerhard stupid, incompetent, sleazy, delusional, a shameless liar, referring to him as a guy who refuses to take accountability for his own failures in leadership and management, who places blame on everyone but himself and should probably be the one getting fired instead of the grunts who had no say in the company’s movements.
But Mark’s been hard at work if you didn’t know. Collecting evidence.
So sure, MindsEye has been a massive failure and studio Build a Rocket Boy has been undergoing layoffs while Gerhard posts conspiracy theories to deflect blame. But there’s great news, because the real villains are going to be outed soon and go to the video game federal prison.
Mark has promised us that he has uncovered “overwhelming evidence” of corporate sabotage.
“Over the past months we have been working with external partners and legal advisors to investigate the criminal activity that took place around our launch. That work has taken far longer than expected, but it has now resulted in overwhelming evidence of organised espionage and corporate sabotage affecting MindsEye. Because this matter is moving toward prosecution, we cannot share the full details publicly yet.”
Normal amounts of evidence are, well…eh. They could circumstantial, coincidental, anecdotal, evidential. Ipso facto, expecto patronum, fancy legal talk. But overwhelming evidence? That’s the kind of evidence you cannot being to whelm. And Mark has it. He said so. Why would he lie if he didn’t?
And all jokes aside, I really want to see the overwhelming evidence of criminal interference. Not because I doubt Mark, I’d like to reiterate when they inevitably send a copy of this article to their lawyers to send me a C&D that I fully support Mark’s investigation and hope the criminals are finally brought to justice. What I’m really interested in is why a group of people evidently thought MindsEye would be such a threat that they organized a criminal-level conspiracy to sabotage it.
It’s like finding out that Juicy Juice hired ex-paramilitary soldiers to unscrew the bolts on an 8 year old girl’s lemonade stand when they also knew that the kid was going to be selling water with yellow food dye.
So a lot of people out there are mocking the idea that a big conspiracy happened against MindsEye and we’re about to see the greatest perp walk since Enron, but me? I’m all for it. I’m ready to see the overwhelming evidence and be overwhelmed. I’ve got a case of Coke Zero, I’ve got my comfy chair and my robe. I’ve got my popcorn…wait, where’s my popcorn?
Those sons of bitches, they did it again.
