Epic Has Already Filed Suit Against Apple

Didn’t I say this sounded like it was planned?

Remember when I said that Epic pulling this charade and forcing Apple’s response by removing Fortnite from the store sounded like it was all going to plan? Some things in this world happen fast. What does not happen fast is a 65 page legal brief.

Epic has filed a lawsuit against Apple following their move today to force the company’s hand and remove Fortnite from the app store. The complaint references Apple’s monopoly in regards to the closed app store that developers must receive approval for if they want a chance at selling their programs on many of Apple’s devices.

Fast forward to 2020, and Apple has become what it once railed against: the behemoth seeking to control markets, block competition, and stifle innovation. Apple is bigger, more powerful, more entrenched, and more pernicious than the monopolists of yesteryear. At a market cap of nearly $2 trillion, Apple’s size and reach far exceeds that of any technology monopolist in history.

The lawsuit seeks a court-enforced injunction against Apple’s anti-competitive practices regarding the App Store. The lawsuit even references this morning’s app store related shenanigans.

How long has this battle been in the works? Long enough that Epic thought ahead to get the rights to host a Nineteen Eighty Four short on Party Royale.
