Perfect World Entertainment Publishing Gigantic

Gigantic_Swifties_02

Perfect World Entertainment today announced a new partnership deal to publish Gigantic, the free to play action MOBA by Motiga Games, on its Arc client. Gigantic will join first party titles including Champions Online, Neverwinter, and Star Trek Online, as Perfect World Entertainment continues to ramp up its efforts to introduce quality games to the PC and console market.

Gigantic is described as “a free-to-play action MOBA developed by Motiga that pits teams of five heroes and their massive guardians against each other in highly intense battles across a variety of maps. The game combines explosive combat with fast-paced teamwork, strategy, and skill, as players fight to defeat the opposing guardian with spells, guns, and swords.”

“2016 continues to be a year of growth for Perfect World Entertainment,” said Bryan Huang, CEO of Perfect World Entertainment. “As we expand our line-up of partnered developers, we always want to ensure that our team is publishing quality content for gamers. The passion that the Motiga team has makes them a perfect partner for PWE as we accomplish our goal of bringing quality products to the industry.”

Motiga plans to have Gigantic ready for release on PC, the Windows 10 store, and Xbox One. The accompanying trailer shows a game that looks to be similar to SMITE, albeit with more action elements.

Neverwinter Still Addressing Level Grind

neverwinter_scourge_warlock_071414_3_wm

Despite its advances over the past months, Perfect World Entertainment is still working on balancing the level 60-70 experience in Neverwinter to be less of a grind. Today’s update on the official blog focuses on the Elemental Evil campaign quests:

We’ve been analyzing the current state of content from 60-70 and we agreed with the sentiment that it felt too grindy compared to the 1-60 experience. We knew we had to do something to improve the experience, but the big question was, how? We had to be very careful how we changed the experience, because it’s a massive task and affects existing players.

The plan of action goes as such: Elemental Evil was introduced as a retroactive quest, one that players could start at level 60 and use as an alternate form of leveling. Rather than having the campaign use repeatable quests, players will run through the campaign once. In fact, vigilance quests are leaving entirely with the only repeatable quests in their respective areas unlocking once the player has completed all four zones.

Neverwinter will have a double experience weekend beginning April 7th and running through the 11th.

Diving Into Arc’s Daily Quests, Price of Zen

905fd1f118d2ae7785f27040bffd451a1456783936

Earlier this week we learned about Arc 3.0, the latest client update for Perfect World’s library of MMOs. When Arc 3.0 launches, players will be able to complete daily quests to unlock Arc points which can then be redeemed for Zen, Perfect World’s real money currency. But how much are you going to have to grind in order to get that sweet payment? Let’s find out.

According to the above screenshot posted on the Arc 3.0 blog, the bare minimum of Zen (500 Zen worth $5 USD) Zen package will run you 5,000 Arc points. Each level requires 600 experience, and each level grants 500 Arc points. In other words, you need to level up ten times in order to afford the $5 package. With example daily quests running upwards of eight days, you could be looking at quite the time investment for these rewards.

The good news is that the dailies seem to be minimally invasive, simple ideas like log in eight days in a row or just play a specific game on the list. It would be irresponsible and poor business for Perfect World Entertainment to make it too easy to obtain Zen with as little work as the daily quests already seem to ask for, as people would simply use that as a source of income.

Still, we’ll have to see how the quests go when the Arc client launches.

Get Free Zen By Using The Arc Client

Arc is Perfect World Entertainment’s answer to Steam, given that it houses their library in an easy to use package and also acts as a conduit through which money flows and goods are redeemed. With Arc 3.0, the next major update to the client, PWE is looking to change the way you log in and perhaps get their players to try some games that they might otherwise look the other way on.

MMO gamers will be no strangers to the concept of daily quests, an idea that is being thrust into the client in its next update. Daily quests will require the player to do things like log into a game, log in for a number of consecutive days, or play a certain game on two separate days. Completing quests gives experience which in turn gains levels, and in turn can be redeemed for free cash shop currency for PWE’s titles.

Completing quests will give you experience points to level up your Arc Quests level. Each level requires 600 XP and will reward you with 500 Arc Points that can be transitioned into ZEN or other in-game currencies available for games on the Arc platform. There is no level cap to your Arc profile, so you will continue to receive rewards as you complete your quests. These points will be redeemable via the Charge tab on the Arc website and client.

It’s an interesting concept, for sure. Cryptic Studios used to give away stuff for free on the Raptr client, so this may just be an extension of that campaign.

Mark your calendars and prepare to call in sick, because March 15th marks the official launch date of Neverwinter’s next module, The Maze Engine. The update brings a plethora of new content and changes to existing features, including the return of dungeons and major tweaks to the mount system. Players who are interested in checking out the update before it goes live can sign on to the public test realm and copy their characters over.

The Maze Engine brings back numerous familiar faces from Drizzt, Minsc, Makos, and more.

Following the events of Neverwinter: Underdark, a new threat has waltzed its way into Neverwinter in the form of Baphomet, the Prince of Beasts. Baphomet seeks the ancient Maze Engine artifact in a quest to alter reality in his favor and bring about the destruction of Neverwinter. Thankfully, familiar faces such as Drizzt, Minsc, Linu, Makos and many more return to aid adventurers in their plight to take down the demon lord.

The Maze Engine also marks the return of Castle Never, where players will need to take on its new inhabitants.

Mac Gamers Are Seeing More Titles Cancelled

STO_Screenshot_Season9_042114_jpeg1

Perfect World Entertainment has joined a list of companies that are pulling out of the Mac gaming scene, with the announcement that Star Trek Online’s Mac client is being discontinued. The client has had numerous issues in the past, and while many of those problems have been fixed, the ongoing support requirements have ultimately lead to the decision to pull support altogether.

Following these issues, we looked at our Mac support overall and determined that we cannot promise to deliver an experience on Mac that meets our expectations of quality. After heavy consideration, we have decided to end support for the Mac version of Star Trek Online on February 5th. No other version of Star Trek Online is impacted.

In order to reimburse players, any purchases made from October 1st onward (including lifetime subscriptions) will be refunded. Perfect World Entertainment isn’t the only company to drop support on Mac. Recently Warner Bros. announced that the Mac and Linux version of Batman: Arkham Knight would be cancelled entirely. Last November, Blizzard announced that it would break trend and not publish Overwatch on Mac. Last June, Square Enix released Final Fantasy XIV’s Mac client and quickly pulled it from sale due to major technical problems.

Neverwinter’s latest Reddit AMA was last night, and for the sake of brevity we have compiled a list of the more important/informational answers. For those of you willing to dive deep and read the full answers, you can check out the complete Reddit thread here. The overall AMA is pretty short and easily finished in under a half hour, but these are the questions that were not answered with a flat out “no,” or “I’ll make a note and send this off to the team.”

  • Kobolds may become a playable race in the future.
  • No DDOS comments for the time being.
  • Addressing class balance on a wide scale is one of the big plans for this year.
  • Changes to the Stronghold system with regards to how large/small guilds interact.
  • There are plans to make Neverwinter more alt-friendly.
  • Siege won’t return until some changes are made to it.
  • Older content is getting an itemization refresh with The Maze Engine.
  • No plans for foundry additions this year outside of bug fixes.
  • Mounts will be customizable with a stable of sorts providing buffs for players with multiple mounts.
  • Mounts will be moved to their own bag.
  • Queue improvements include large groups (24 players, for example) and private queues for PvE.
