The original and Emergence are back.
Night Dive Studios is quickly becoming one of my favorite developers, seeing as their MO over the past seven years has been to buy up game properties that have long since been abandoned by their original developers and remaster beloved old games for a new generation and new hardware. The System Shock enhanced editions? That was Night Dive. Doom 64’s re-release? That too.
Last month I reported on the disappearance of SiN and its Source Engine sequel SiN Episodes: Emergence from the Steam store, noting at the time that rumors have been swirling that the IP had been bought up by Night Dive for years without any real sort of confirmation. SiN returned to the store last week and SiN Episodes has officially been put back up for sale as of March 23. Even better, we had full confirmation that Night Dive would be working on a remastered edition coming to PC and consoles.
SiN and SiN Episodes: Emergence were developed by Ritual Entertainment. Ritual was bought up by Mumbo Jumbo after the company faced financial problems in the wake of Emergence’s launch.
Meanwhile the Mortal Kombat Komplete Edition has been yanked from everywhere by which I mean Steam, PS3, and Xbox 360. Early speculation revolved around the game being pulled due to licensing rights, as the rights to Freddy Krueger had recently reverted back to the Wes Craven estate. A post on the Mortal Kombat support forums indicates that the issue comes down to networking changes.
On the positive side, everyone who wanted to play the Wages of SiN expansion pack may now do so at no additional fee, assuming you own SiN on Steam.
