Epic Games Will Periodically Require 2FA For Free Games

Starting now.

Epic Games loves account security almost as much as they love cross promotional events on Fortnite and I don’t know if you’ve been paying attention but Epic loves Fortnite events. In fact Epic’s love of security is so great that they are willing to potentially annoy some players in order to get you to sign up to keep your account safe so you don’t get hacked and clog up Epic’s customer support.

Starting this month Epic will periodically require two-factor authentication before you can claim some of the free games on the Epic Games Store.

Beginning today and ending on May 21, we will periodically require two-factor authentication prior to claiming free games on the Epic Games Store.  We are making this change in an effort to encourage our players to take steps to strengthen their Epic account security.

An inconvenience? A slight one. The first period runs through May 21 and it’s not certain how often the 2FA requirement is going to come back around. At the very minimum it will cover For the King, Amnesia: The Dark Descent, and Crashlands as titles you’ll need to boost that security in order to obtain.
