Neowiz made an oopsie.
Neowiz is apologizing after taking action against accounts suspected of exploiting an estate bug. While initially slamming down the banhammer on roughly 350 accounts, the company started looking at the accounts banned and realized that not quite all of those were actually taking advantage of the exploit.
In fact most of them weren’t. 300 of the 350.
Last night, we temporarily suspended around 350 accounts after an investigation of server logs related to an exploit with the Estate system. We have been looking into this issue for some time, and after verifying and uncovering a fix, we chose to take swift action as this bug became more widely known to minimize the fallout related to the exploit.
However, as we continued to work through the night (and saw an alarming amount of our community asking why their accounts were temporarily suspended), it came to light that innocent accounts had been included in our temporary suspension due to human error in our log investigation process. After a more in-depth investigation, we narrowed the amount of exploiters to around 50 players.
The team is working on unbanning the accounts that should not have been punished and will be compensating those customers with a package. They expect to be finished unbanning accounts that didn’t deserve it within the next 24 hours.
An additional compensation package will be handed out to players for every day that the estate system is down.
