Could set example for other developers to follow.
Ubisoft is in a bit of a pickle; Both the Google Play store and Apple App Store are actively marketing a game called Area F2. Area F2 is a blatant shameless ripoff of the immensely popular Rainbow Six Siege, a nearly beat-by-beat ripoff ported to mobile phones by the titan of Chinese counterfeit products Alibaba Corp. Being a Chinese company, Alibaba is pretty difficult to punish in western courts. So what does Ubisoft do? They send takedowns to Google and Apple.
Both companies refused to take down the game, and now Ubisoft is taking them to court.
Ubisoft has filed lawsuits against Google and Apple in Los Angeles federal court after both companies refused to take down a carbon copy of Rainbow Six Siege. The lawsuit news was broken by Bloomberg who note that the lawsuit claims that Area F2 rips off everything in Rainbow Six Siege from the character select screen to the final score screen and everything in between.
But don’t take their word for it, just check out the numerous comparison videos on Youtube. This lawsuit should it prove successful may pave the way for more developers to hold Apple and Google responsible for the games that appear on their storefronts. Both mobile stores are no stranger to carbon copy ripoffs of popular PC/Console titles.
