People are not happy with id Software.
A couple of days ago we reported on Doom Eternal’s new Denuvo Anti-Cheat being installed with the latest game update and specifically that the anti-cheat required high level security privileges and could potentially serve as a security risk if hackers crack it open. As it turns out we weren’t the only ones concerned about this software; The Doom community is not happy.
Over the past three days Doom Eternal’s score has descended into hell with more than 3,600 negative reviews since May 15 and more coming in every minute. Its overall score went from 83% “very positive” to a 55% “mixed” and may continue heading downward. What is yet to be seen is whether Valve will classify this as a review bomb and thus disqualify the reviews when calculating the game’s score.
Now the good news is that homeslice Patrick Hancock over at Destructoid managed to get a response from Denuvo stating that the game will be patched at some point to allow for single player offline without installing Denuvo anti-cheat. When? They couldn’t say since Denuvo obviously isn’t the one working on the game.
Will this calm some of the complaints? Sure. Hopefully.
