It’s just kinda there.
Hola Amigos, it’s your best friend forever with that article I promised about Avengers challenge cards.
So last week we talked about Marvel’s Avengers and the potential for really sleazy monetization surrounding the game’s battle pass system. If you’re not aware and don’t feel like reading my article, here is the skinny; Each character has their own battle pass, the six for the main cast are free, and they are non-rotating and pay themselves off with credits. Future character passes will cost $10 apiece but can be bought with currency earned from other passes and have a free track. You get $13 from a pass total.
I did note in my article that a lot of the perspective on this would come down to how long battle passes take to finish and I didn’t want to speculate at the time because there was no reason to believe that progress in the beta would match progress in the live game. Now we have the live game.
The bad news is that battle passes are definitely time gated, the only way you can progress in them is to finish daily and weekly challenges and that means waiting for those challenges to renew. The good news is that those challenges are not very hard and contribute decently to the pass.
There are two daily and two weekly challenges available at any time. The daily challenges grant three points of progress each while the weeklies grant 11 each. You need 200 points in total to complete the 40 levels of pass. So if you do both weeklies and both dailies on day one, you’ll end up with 28 points or about 14% of the pass. By my calculations if you do the two dailies daily and the two weeklies you can receive 64 points per week. So all in all it would take a minimum of a little over three weeks to complete a pass. Assuming you’re powering through it.
It’s not a bad deal, considering the passes don’t expire and the tasks are generally things you’ll accomplish just by playing the game. If you’re a content locust, this probably won’t make you very happy that you can’t slam through the battle pass in a weekend. For the casual player, you still won’t have to do any arduous grinding to complete each task.
