Steam: The Walking Dead Onslaught “Mostly Negative”

Game from Survios not doing well.

The Walking Dead Onslaught has big shoes to fill. Saints & Sinners was a beautiful VR game that everyone loved which currently has a 91% approval rating on Steam. It is regarded as a masterful work and a game that defined how virtual reality should work for those who played it.

Onslaught is not that, and most of the people who have played it are not happy.

Onslaught is the latest VR Walking Dead game from Survios. It launched on Steam this week and currently holds a 29% “Mostly Negative” rating from over 400 reviews. Most of the complaints seem levied at the awkward controls, poor voice acting, weapons feeling weak, multiple headshots needed to kill walkers, and the fact that survival seems to have a Fortnite-esque cone of fog that slowly whittles down the player’s health under the guise of the “horde.” There also appears to be minimal interaction with the world, pre-scripted reloads instead of the player doing it themselves, and the general consensus is that the story isn’t good.

It’s an interesting reminder that even a well-respected company can sometimes put out a turd. Survios is not an unknown name in VR gaming and their titles are pretty well respected. They’ve been responsible for Creed: Rise To Glory and Westworld Awakening. Outside of one title with a middling average, it’s the only game in their library on Steam that doesn’t have a thumbs up review score.

Hopefully the crew at Survios can get the game up and running properly.
