Uh…
Is it too early to talk about something other than the US election? Let’s move forward anyway.
Population Zero is a game that we’ve talked about to death, but since it’s time for the six month Early Access checkup it’s worth another run down the details. Back in August I pointed out that Population Zero’s population was regularly hitting zero. The headline that everyone wanted virtually since the game’s name was revealed. The population dropped off very quickly after launch and never recovered, as those who had purchased the game stopped returning by an order of magnitude.
The big complaint about Population Zero has to do with the game’s seven day reset. For many people it makes playing and grinding moot as it requires you to start over every single week. The devs at Enplex had spoken in the past about addressing the seven day reset and unfortunately nothing ever came of that. It doesn’t help that the multiplayer shared world experience was severely lacking in social features right off the bat.
Population Zero’s social media is completely dead with the Facebook account dormant since July 24, the Twitter account going silent two days later, the Steam account hasn’t seen a post since June 15. The last game update was July 22. According to this article published in August, a number of the Enplex Games team was laid off and replaced with outsourced contract work.
Our Population Zero project did not have the smoothest early access launch. This seriously affected the state of our entire team, so it became smaller, we transferred some of the people to outsourcing.
There have been no developments on the public side of the company in months. If Enplex is still working on Population Zero, they’ve shown no interest in keeping the public up to date on their efforts.
On the subject of Population Zero having some magical comeback, crazier things have happened.
