It looks like Tommy came out on top.
If 2020 has had one fight brewing in the background it was between Tommy Tallarico and Roblox. Roblox has become rather well known for the “oof” sound effect, but what you may not know is that the sound was created by famed game composer Tommy Tallarico for the game Messiah way back in 2000. Tommy’s been raising a bit of a ruckus on Twitter about the ownership of the sound with Roblox claiming back in July that Tommy does not own the copyright to the sound effect.
According to VentureBeat, the two parties have settled their dispute without the need to go to court and it looks like Tommy won out. The sound effect will be removed temporarily and when it comes back it will require a 100 Robux licensing fee for developers to put it back in their games. Tallarico is also offering for sale four sound libraries for Roblox developers.
