Cuts game size massively.
Fortnite is introducing a new performance mode for players on older rigs that should considerably boost framerates. The mode is available starting today and trades visual quality in return for lower memory usage not to mention lighter loads on the CPU and GPU.
The performance boost that Epic is showcasing should be pretty big for players using underpowered computers. For recommended hardware Epic suggests using an SSD drive instead of a standard hard drive, and providing six gigabytes of ram to avoid stuttering.
They also note that performance mode on Fortnite won’t look pretty, but it will run better. Players can also cut high resolution textures and effectively cut the game in half by removing 14gb of data leaving only a 17gb client.
