IMVU Launches VCoin Cryptocurrency

Seamlessly integrating into the IMVU experience.

Have you ever played IMVU and thought “boy this game would go great with a cryptocurrency”? Well I have news for your extremely specific request. IMVU announced this week that they are launching VCOIN, a transferable digital currency that users can buy and sell within IMVU’s economy. VCOIN is an ERC-20 token exchangeable both on and off the platform.

According to CEO Daren Tsui, the launch of VCOIN comes partially in response to IMVU‘s rather large service economy. Players hire other players to host events, decorate rooms, etc, and most of those payments were occurring off-platform adding a layer of uncertainty to the transaction. With VCOIN, those payments can be made in-game and then extracted for real money.

“This model of creating a transferable cryptocurrency is unlike any in the marketplace,” said Nancy Beaton, VP Strategy, IMVU. “Preserving the ability to play, connect and conduct peer-to-peer transactions on the platform combined with the transferable nature of the token off the platform provides users with the features, security and control they want over their in-game earnings.”

The going rate of VCOIN is 250 VCOIN for $1 USD, or $0.004 per VCOIN. VCOIN has been granted a no-action relief from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
