Soulbound Studios is taking a note out of the book of Daybreak Game Company with the announcement of Kingdoms of Elyria, a management sim spinoff of the previously-cancelled MMO Chronicles of Elyria. In a video posted to the company YouTube account, Jeromy Walsh tries to explain how Kingdoms of Elyria being a base part of Chronicles of Elyria won’t take away resources from the development of the full game, but will in fact speed it up. In short, exactly the lie Daybreak gave with Everquest Next and Landmark.
Kingdoms of Elyria is free to those who spend at least $40 on Chronicles of Elyria, the MMO that Soulbound Studios cancelled before firing its staff and closing its doors last year, before miraculously rebooting development once backers started lawyering up. As has become standard practice, Soulbound Studios preemptively shut down any discourse directly on the video by closing comments.
