Nexon Makes Big Investments

In other companies.

Nexon is investing big into companies that are not Nexon. This week the development giant announced $874 million in investments into four public traded companies, as well as some others. The crux of Nexon’s investments will go toward Hasbro, Bandai Namco, Konami, and Sega. A number of other companies received investments small enough to not warrant disclosure.

In 2020 Nexon received approval for $1.5 billion in investment toward outside entertainment companies. The investments are not a step in acquisition or activism in the businesses.

“We believe companies with strong, well-managed global IP are often overlooked and undervalued in a market that is narrowly focused on introductions of new IP,” said Owen Mahoney, President and CEO of Nexon. “These investments reflect our respect for management teams that create and grow global properties over a period of years and decades. We believe that each has potential to capitalize on the secular shift from linear formats to interactive entertainment.”
