Steam: Another Laundering App Banned

Developer Free Will Games gets the boot.

Another week, another group of devs banned from Steam.

While Valve hasn’t publicly commented on Steam bans in years, it usually doesn’t take much investigation to finger a probable cause or two with most developer bans. Case in point, this week’s ban of a few various games and DLC.

The one I want to focus on revolves around developer Free Will Games and the title Beat Diablo. While MMO Fallout can’t confirm that Free Will Games was engaging in money laundering, there’s reason enough to believe that Free Will Games was laundering money on Steam. Particularly through a piece of DLC that was pulled in April 2020 for The Hidden Warriors that cost $200. As we’ve noted before, $200 seems to be the target price point used by suspected money launderers.

There are also concerns as to whether or not Puppet Story (previously called Beat Diablo) was fake, given the game only had one level and immediately crashed upon starting level two. Puppet Story also appears to use art lifted from other titles including Crypt of the Necrodancer and Team Fortress 2. The ban covers Puppet Story plus the Ninja Village and Alien World DLC.

The ban wave also hit three other titles; Storm Burst, Killer Tank, and Crazy Tank. It’s probably not unreasonable to assume some of these games may be from the same developer. MMO Fallout has already identified a few other titles still on Steam that are from the same person but distributed under different developer names.
