LOTRO Shuts Down Ithil Server

Offers free transfers to players.

In the MMO sphere it isn’t often that an announcement of a server closure is accompanied by the caveat that only one server is closing. But norms, like your grandmother’s glass cabinet, are meant to be shattered with a whiffle bat. Standing Stone Games announced today that the Lord of the Rings Online legendary server Ithil will shut down on June 15.

Good news is that characters will be available for transfer to any world. Better news is that the transfers will be free. You will need to handle any transfers before December 31, 2021, as anything remaining on the servers will be deleted after that time.

The Legendary World of Ithil will be closing to public log-in after June 15th, 2021, with the world formally becoming unavailable after our regular 8:00 AM Eastern (-4 GMT) weekly restart on the 16th. Through the end of the year free character and shared item transfers will remain available from Ithil to any other game world, including our remaining Legendary World of Anor. After December 31st, 2021, the Ithil game world will be closed permanently, and any remaining characters will not be able to be transferred or accessed.

Player impact should be minimal, as the server is shutting down due to lack of population.

Ithil was initially opened in response to a large number of players logging into Anor during the launch of our Legendary Worlds, and while it has been home to many players since then, its population has always been among the lowest of our game worlds. Anor will remain home to our existing Legendary World experience while we bring out new server events and options in the future.

Players are reminded to retrieve mail items before June 16 as any attachments will not transfer over.
