Neverwinter Announces Level Crunch

I’m crushing your head.

Step aside, World of Warcraft. You’re not the only one who can implement a level crunch.

Perfect World Entertainment today announced that with the Module 21 update that Neverwinter will be substantially crunching its level cap. Currently sitting at 80, players will log in after the update to find their characters sitting at a neat level 20.

Why? Every so often Cryptic Studios likes to look at the leveling experience and shake things up a bit. Also the game had a heavy tendency to get really confusing once players hit the end-game and transitioned to grinding item levels.

As we looked to improve the leveling experience, we felt it was a good time to connect better with D&D while also helping players understand what to focus on to improve their character. That brought us to bringing the levels back to 20 and have them be milestones that mark progress in your journey which all ties in better with core D&D gameplay. Those milestones are now a linear journey with new tutorials, changes to gear, and a better experience for new players learning Neverwinter.

Evidently some Cryptic employees have been playing Destiny 2, as the company also has plans to vault certain content with a vague potential to one day re-release. In addition, older campaigns will see changes of their own.

In short, the Adventure system is a feature which allows players to earn additional rewards for completing a set of missions.  Each leveling zone has an associated Adventure, and certain older campaigns have been converted into Adventures.  We’ll be discussing Adventures in more detail in an upcoming blog.
