LOTRO Launches New Legendary Servers

Not long after shutting down Ithil for low population.

Lord of the Rings Online this week launched two brand new legendary servers for the game. The two servers are named Shadowfax and Treebeard, after Gandalf’s horse and the ent character respectively. Legendary servers in LOTRO are similar to progression servers in other MMOs, where the game starts out with the original version of the game and opens up new expansions over time.

What sets the servers apart is their progression. Shadowfax players receive a 50% bonus to experience including character xp, legendary item exp, and mount xp with 20% higher virtue xp, with new expansions unlocking every two months. Treebeard players see a reduced experience gain by 60% with expansions unlocking every five to six months.

Both servers also include LOTRO’s new landscape difficulty, a fancy term for nerfing your character to make the game harder. You also need VIP subscription status to enter either server.
