Steam: NIS America To Arbitrarily Raise Prices

Everything is going to get more expensive.

Gamers are generally used to their video games becoming less expensive over time as games go on sale and overall just lose value. For Nippon Ichi Software however, the company is bucking the trend and raising the prices of a bunch of their games across the board.

NIS America recently revealed on Twitter that prices for games are set to go through the roof for fifteen of their titles. In most cases the cost of the game is straight up doubling while others aren’t seeing as dramatic an increase. Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA for example will increase from $40 without discount to $60. The most extreme rise is Phantom Brave whose price is quadrupling from $5 to $20.

Price changes go into effect on July 19, and as of yet NIS America has made no attempt to justify or explain the price increase. In 2019 Nippon Ichi Software reportedly raised its compensation limit for executives by five times the prior amount, all while the company was apparently skirting bankruptcy.
