Eight years after the fact.
Final Fantasy XIV is seeing a massive surge in players too the point where most servers now have queues at many times of the day. It may make sense for players to avoid the queue and just hang out in game even when they aren’t playing it, but Square Enix is taking a heavier hand in lightening server congestion.
And no that doesn’t mean they’re handing out punishments. The latest update for Final Fantasy XIV simply boots players from the server if they’ve been AFK for more than 30 minutes.
In an effort to ease server congestion, players who are inactive for more than 30 minutes will be logged out automatically.
Final Fantasy XIV recently became so popular that Square Enix temporarily ran out of complete edition codes. So while some portions of the community might take umbrage with this announcement, in the long run it’s probably more important to let people who want to play the game play it while forcing those who lounge around in Limsa Lominsa to move their mouse once in a while.
