Destiny 2: Synthstrand Goes Bye-Bye August 24

Controversial transmog changes are being rolled back.

When Bungie announced Destiny 2 would finally be receiving a transmog system, players were delighted. And then Bungie announced the details of how the system would be implemented and players became angry. Specifically over the fact that the process involved an overtly complicated system of acquiring several forms of currency and was time-gated to push players toward buying transmogs outright on the cash shop. Armor synthesis allows players to change the look of their armor while retaining their actual armor’s stats.

This week’s Bungie post revealed that some of those systems are coming to an end with Season 15. Synthstrand, the currency required for armor synthesis bounties, is going away. Instead players will purchase said bounties for 10,000 Glimmer. The same non-premium currency that gets used for most other things in Destiny 2.

What isn’t changing is the 10 Synthweave tokens per class per season limit, which will no doubt keep some players frustrated. Bungie states in the dev blog that they will continue monitoring feedback around armor synthesis.

We’ll continue to monitor the conversation and use of Armor Synthesis as Season 15 rolls out. In the meantime, keep showing us your new looks! The team is inspired and delighted by the incredible creativity they’ve seen from Guardians around the world so far. We can’t wait to see more!
