Hawken Reborn Loses 97% Of Its Users In A Week

With mostly negative reviews.

505 Games recently relaunched the Hawken IP under the name Hawken Reborn, and virtually nobody liked it. The mech shooter originally launched in 2012 on PC and 2016 on consoles, Hawken was free to play with heavy monetization that some criticized as pay to win.

Hawken Reborn however is 100% single player, is in early access, but also hasn’t dropped the heavy monetization. In a single player game. And it seems like most gamers who try it out immediately dump it and move on.

The game sits at around a 22% review score, but the numbers are even worse. Having launched with a concurrent peak of 1,787 players on May 18 the peak daily count has since gone down to under 60 players. Yes, 98% of Hawken Reborn’s peak count has dropped the game in only seven days.

Yet another early access game that appears to be dead on arrival.

  1. I’m an original Hawken player.

In two words, Hawken Reborn is like if Valve announced Counter-Strike 2, but instead of a competitive FPS, they said it’s going to be a single player 4X strategy game instead. The reaction would be the same.

The reason this game is horribly received is because it’s PvE, Online-Online Live Service, has less content than a Demo, but launches as Early Access and it’s already P2W. And most importantly – the developers have no plans for PvP.

It’s unthinkable that an “Early Access” half-assed POS like this game that has barely any content is launching with a full blown P2W cash shop. The fact that they want it to be online-only just so everyone has access to the cash shop and they can make as much money as possible, but not allowing people to play the game if they don’t have internet connection or if the official servers shut down shows the developers are just greedy swines who are absolutely tone deaf and out of touch with the people they are trying to pitch this game to.

That’s if we accept the game as PvE-only.

The second elephant in the room is the fact that Hawken is a PvP game, it has always been a PvP game and this is what people remember it for. I even made a poll on Steam and Discord to see what people remember the game for: https://strawpoll.com/polls/PbZqR02O0yN/results

The results show 89% remember the game for PvP, 11% remember it for PvE. It’s clearly shows what people were expecting when they saw a new Hawken game. The fact that the developers did not deliver, makes me feel like this game is one very expensive social experiment to see how much trash can the developers shove on players before players rise up and show they don’t like being treated like imbeciles.
