Steam Is Hosting Scams Again…Again…Again…Again

Two new scams appear on Steam.

There are new scams on Steam, something we seem to be saying roughly once a month nowadays. But today we saw the launch of two new scam apps on Steam, both very likely by the same person due to how they deploy the exact same strategy and have similar fake developer/publisher names.

The first is Medieval March which I personally purchased. Medieval March promotes itself as “a medieval survival game where you can fight for survival with a medieval theme. You can invade villages with your own team and start new wars against your opponents.” You may notice in the Steam description it says;

“Medieval March is currently unreleased and if you have purchased the game it is not yet available for download.
If you have made a purchase during the boot process, extra gifts are waiting for you in the game. You can access the list of these gifts on our website.
The game will be available for download on May 10.”

Surely Valve can’t allow a developer to just sell a game as released but not include a game with it, right? Wrong. Botting up the game brings you to this screen with an install button and a note saying it’ll be available May 10.

Medieval March uses stolen art from various IPs including Lord of the Rings and For Honor as its “screenshots” and includes no actual in-game shots.

Meanwhile because I’m not completely insane and didn’t want to buy both of them to confirm the obvious, I managed to find a YouTuber named English Teacher Plays. Likely just a username. ETP purchased Zombie Royale, the second title clearly by the same scam artist. That game claims it will be available June 22.

The screenshots on Zombie Royale are fake and were stolen directly from an Art Station artist from Korea. One of the screenshots is Lethal Company fan art.

It’s obvious what the goal of these scams is; by placing the “launch dates” months in advance, the people who made them are hoping to keep most people waiting long past the point where Valve no longer offers refunds or to allow the guy to cash out before Valve actually catches on that this is a big scam and there are very likely no games coming.

Hopefully Valve can ban this developer and prevent anyone from unknowingly walking into this scam. Me? I’m going to go request a refund.

  1. Well Epic Store is doing very well, slowly working through their ‘to do’ list..

    Soon enough Valve will need to start actually giving shit about great many things they don’t give a shit about because up to now they didn’t have any real competition and so didn’t need to care because their store was the only place people could go to. But that won’t remain a fact for much longer. Hehe.

    Now, what do you think happens when people using your store get pissed off by your shitty service?

    Of course, they’ll go find another store, one that doesn’t piss them off. ;D
