Will it convince anyone?
Once Human is out on Steam this week and Starry Studio is once again explaining itself. With NetEase involved in the game the studio has notably come under scrutiny by users concerned about their data privacy.
In response, the studio has penned a letter on Twitter to explain how user data is used. The game does ask for a lot of personal information, and with Starry Studio and NetEase being Chinese there’s naturally a lot of suspicion on their intentions.
Once Human takes our users’ data privacy very seriously. We would only use personal data if we have a legitimate legal basis, such as providing requested services or acting with your expressed consent. We will only use your data lawfully and reasonably and in accordance with local legal compliance requirements, while practicing the data privacy principles such as data minimization, purpose limitation, and transparency. We appreciate and welcome any and all feedback given by our players to help us improve.
Will it have an impact? Maybe? They are asking users to go on the “trust us” line of reasoning so there’s bound to be plenty who are still suspicious.
