Realm Royale’s Closure Seems Imminent

Liquidates the entire store.

Is Realm Royale gearing up to shut down? Well let’s look at the evidence. On Sunday August 12, the folks at Hi-Rez Studios announced that all of the prices on Realm Royale content would be reduced to a single crown.

Meanwhile I noticed late on Monday at about 6p.m. EST that Hi-Rez very quietly went into Steam and pulled all of Realm Royale’s DLC from sale. Which makes sense when you remember that all of those items are probably on the store for much cheaper.

It’s pretty obvious that Realm Royale has been in maintenance mode for the last four years, but is this a sign that the game is finally coming to an end? Perhaps an attempt by Hi-Rez Studios to breath a little more life into the game before admitting that it’s been lost to the large number of cheaters that terrorize people in the game?

In August 2023 Hi-Rez dropped in a new 40-player map to replace the old one, so it’s not like the company is unaware of their low player count. The game generally bumps between 300 and 400 concurrent users on Steam at any given time, not counting the console versions.

So who knows, maybe it’s doing just good enough to keep the lights on but not much else. Maybe we’ll get an announcement at the end of the fiscal quarter that they are closing it down.
