Give players a way to directly unlock characters.
MultiVersus is a title that’s clearly had problems retaining players, as evident by the drop from its 153,000 peak on Steam to under 2k on most days. Also evident as Warner Bros. has admitted in a recent investor call that MultiVersus and the latest Harry Potter Quidditch game have added $100 million to losses in the gaming division.
And if you ask people what their big complaints are on MultiVersus, outside of the slowness of the gameplay itself you’re likely to quickly hear about how mind-numbing it is to unlock a single character. And MultiVersus has a ton of characters, with two added each season.
In a recent developer blog, Player First revealed a new way that players will be able to unlock characters starting in Season 4. Fighter Road sets out a path of short and long term challenges. You’ll also be able to test out most characters you don’t own on the test lab to see if they’re worth unlocking in the first place, another big player complaint.
