Steam: Another Trojan Horse Got On The Steam Store

Game PirateFi banned.

What are the chances of getting a virus from a Steam game? They’re not zero, I’ll tell you that much, although they are pretty slim. Slightly less than they were a few days ago.

Normally the game PirateFi wouldn’t warrant much attention; it looks like a crappy shovelware game made from a pre-built template. And it probably is, only the Steam listing is apparently fake.

According to a multitude of Steam reviews for the now-banned title, what you really got with PirateFi was a trojan horse virus. Trojan.Win32.Lazzzy.gen to be specific for you detail-oriented nerds. Also according to some Steam users, the virus harvests your cookies for login information which it then sends back to the person running the whole scheme.

Valve have banned PirateFi and it looks like Valve killed the depot file so people who did get the game while it was on Steam won’t accidentally download it and infect their system.

A fair reminder to always keep those anti-viruses up to date.
