Dark and Darker Gets $5.86 Million Legal Bill

But wins on copyright grounds.

The lawsuit between Nexon and Ironmace over Dark and Darker finally seems to be over. You may recall back in 2021 that Nexon filed a lawsuit against Dark and Darker claiming that Ironmace, a company made up of ex-Nexon employees, broke the law by developing a game they had started at Nexon, but Nexon cancelled.

According to Korean news site Chosun, Ironmace has been cleared of copyright infringement claims. They have however been found liable for stealing trade secrets when they brought the ideas for the extraction game over to the new company and started working on it themselves. One of the employees was accused of leaking source code and assets to a personal server and using that as the basis for Dark and Darker.

Ironmace has been ordered to pay 8.5 billion won, a number that sounds far more intimidating than the $5.86 million USD that it roughly comes out to. Ironmace will pay the lawsuit off in installments.
