Following A Failed NFT Grift, Legends of Aria Closes Again

To the shock of absolutely nobody.

If exercise in futility was an actual exercise and not a metaphorical concept, then Legends of Aria would have the kind of quadriceps you could crush a watermelon between with no effort. If shutting down the game only to relaunch it a little later on could generate revenue, Legends of Aria wouldn’t need to shut down so many times.

But that isn’t the case, and following its initial failed launch and then an even more disastrous failure to exist as an overpriced NFT grift, before coming back and promising an unsustainable population of players that the game would eventually become subscription-only, Legends of Aria is biting the bucket again. There might not be any bucket left this time.

In a post on the official Discord and on the Patreon;

It is with a heavy heart that I announce the sunset of Legends of Aria Classic and all Legends of Aria live services in 30 days, on March 18, 2025. Unfortunately, the Patreon has not provided enough support to cover server costs for several months. As I must dissolve Citadel Studios as a corporation, we will be discontinuing all live services.

Legends of Aria Classic peaked at 412 concurrent users on Steam back in May 2024 and hasn’t broken 20 since October. As of this publishing, the peak concurrent player count on Steam over the last 24 hours is 3, which is the same number of people who actually left a review in the last two months.

I have no clue if someone is going to come along and pluck the corpse of Legends of Aria for yet another failed Weekend At Bernie’s revival effort, but in case they see this post your money would be better spent in a business venture with a future. Like opening a Subway sandwich franchise or investing in that stockpile of Drake popcorn buckets that Regal Cinema quietly threw away last year.
