Rerelease hits snag as people actually connect to the server.
Fawkes Games CEO John Doe admitted in a now-deleted AMA on Reddit that the reboot for Defiance is “just a floor model” and the company didn’t actually expect gamers to log on and try to play it.
The news comes after yet another stress test in which the scrap Pentium 1 processors and AOL Free Trial internet service powering the Defiance server rack burst into flames from the stress of having more than nobody log in and play on Friday.
Doe went on to express that the stress tests were “kind of an inside joke” and that much like the food at 7-11 or the display stove at Home Depot, you’re not actually expected to use it.
“When you go to the appliance section of the store and turn on the stove, does it turn on? Of course not, but you don’t complain because you know it’s not supposed to work. We’re rebooting Defiance in a very specific way so people can read the stories on MassivelyOP about how it’s finally back and leave comments about how they’ve been waiting for this moment ever since it shut down in 2021. But then they’re supposed to go and play more Balatro, not actually download the client and try to log in.”
Fawkes Games says that they have plans to invest around $75 in upgrading the hardware supporting the game so that the dozen or so people who “still aren’t getting the joke” can occasionally play during the ten minutes of expected uptime every other week when Defiance fully launches next week.
